Lee si woo
I am photographer. In my view, Art is furnace of politics. My photo subject is DMZ
in Korea, UNC(United Nation Command), USFK(US Forces in Korea), as a part of it,
Land mine, Nuclear Weapons, Chemical Weapons. Through my work, I want to point
out that the problems regarding the DMZ, and the Civilian Control Line(CCL)
historically stem from the Eurasian continent’s geopolitical problems and structurally
from United Nations Command(UNC), that is in essence the US armed forces.
While I traveled the CCL and DMZ, I realized one thing. That is, even though you
can’t see any UNC soldier guarding the sentry post in the DMZ, the administrative
authority over the DMZ lies with the United Nations Command(UNC). On top of
that, UNC has 7th rear base in Japan. UNC can operation control to the USFK,
ROKF, USFJ and the Self-Defence Forces.
The UNC was created to fight the war under the UN security council resolution
during the Korean War, but the command lies with US joint chief of staff, not with
the UN military staff committee. For these reasons, In 1975 the UN general
meeting passed a resolution to disband the UNC with which the U.S. has not
complied yet. Disbandment of the UNC is not only an issue of the DMZ on Korean
peninsula. It is also about regaining the authority of the UN constitution that has
been compromised by the U.S. I had walked with meditation from DMZ to Okinawa
for 2nd month, 2004. I tried to reported ‘Depleted Uranium’ evidence for
investigative problem of UNC, USFK(US Forces Korea) and USFJ. Finally I pursuing
my profession, I ran into clearly evidence. After there was my exposure, peace
NGO’s hold a demonstration against it. I published a essay book Civil Control Line
Peace Tour(Chang Bi, 2003). As well as in Korea, this book translated into
German(Abera. 2006) and English(Global Oriental. 2007) My homepage address is
