The U.S. Army Europe Regional Medical Command (ERMC), headquartered at Nachrichten Kaserne in Heidelberg, Germany, is responsible for providing accessible and effective world class health care to the European theater in a joint effort that ensures readiness, quality and participation by the entire health care community.
To meet the European challenge of the ever changing medical environment and the military force, the U.S. Army Europe Regional Medical Command oversees and maintains the successful operation of the Army’s three hospitals and 28 medical clinics currently located throughout Germany, Italy and Belgium.
Although the U.S. Army’s health care system and its mission in Europe date back to the end of WWI, the ERMC’s history is young. The command was formed following the military drawdown when 7th MEDCOM closed its doors in Europe on Oct. 15, 1994. To continue its mission, the European Health Services Support Area (E-HSSA), later renamed the ERMC, was activated and co-located at the site of the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in the Rhineland Pfalz region of Germany.
The U.S. Army Europe Veterinary Services Command (100th Medical Detachment Veterinary Services Headquarters) at Nachrichten Kaserne, Heidelberg, Germany, provides command and control for all veterinary elements in European Command (EUCOM). As one of the subordinate commands under the 30th Medical Brigade, we provide the best possible veterinary support to V Corps and our tri-service customers throughout Europe and EUCOM’s area of responsibility.
