WARPATH exercises are Division level CPXs designed to train for actual wartime missions. These exercises involve execution of OPLAN missions, planning for future operations and division level rehearsals. WARPATH is also used to train for Warfighter Exercises. The division typically conducts two WARPATH exercises a year. Each exercise is one to two weeks in duration and involves deployment of CPs to field locations.
WARPATH is a five-day CPX to train new division and brigade staff officers. This exercise, coupled with the unique circumstances of 2ID, allows for training opportunities and conditions not found among any of its current counterparts. As a forward deployed division, 2ID operations provide real world training in the face of a true threat. Combine the OPTEMPO, PERSTEMPO, and real world threat that 2ID faces, continuity and training among staff members is a constant challenge.
US and Republic of Korea Army forces strengthened their coalition warfighting capabilities during the Warpath Command Post Exercise at Camp Casey. The exercise, in which an artillery offensive is simulated against an imaginary enemy, places the coalition forces in a realistic setting that goes a long way toward being ready to fight. The objectives of Warpath are broken down into two phases. The first phase is to help Division Artillery to do a training evaluation of a counter-fire exercise while practicing a wartime simulation. The second phase is designed as a war game in which a scenario is played out on computers in order to train leadership in battle situations. New technology plays an important role in training exercises such as Warpath.
